  3. Hi Lionel,
Unfortunately I am not aware of an online source for this.

Several gaiwans here (the top 3) are made by the same company and are very reasonably priced. The gaiwan in the video was purchased from Fang Tea in NYC at a very considerable markup. If you are lucky enough to have a friend in Taiwan, they may be familiar with An Da porcelain studio and could purchase one of the blue and white on your behalf.

  4. Thank you Brandon for your quick and precise answer. I was speaking about the gaiwan of the first photo of this post, the one with chinese ideograms, full of leaves, one hand holding the lid…I find his shape is particular…

  5. Oh — I appologize. Unlike most blogs where the Comment link is at the bottom of the post, mine are at the top and sometimes inspire confusion. The gaiwan you are talking about in the other post is owned by my friend Dae and is an antique. I have not seen these online, but perhaps in Taiwanese or Chinese auction sites? I am lucky enough to have local sources for antiques like this.

    Pro:
Beautiful, a piece of history, superior materials for body and glaze. $200 and quickly upwards depending on condition, age, and quality of the painting.

    Con:
These gaiwans were not made with modern gong fu in mind, more for drinking green tea at low temperature directly from the bowl. Thus, heating them with boiling water and grasping the much wider brim to pour into cups or faircup is much more challenging than a modern gaiwan design.

If you like I can put you in touch with someone in NY who sells this sort of thing.
